Their origin started in Tijuana Mexico by Javier Rodríguez, who created this recipe in the 1990s. Since then, this Mexican snack became very popular and has won him several culinary awards. Even Sabritas (Tostitos’ main brand) has recognized Tostilocos as an official snack!
What is Takilocos?
A bag of Tostitos is cut lengthwise and filled with cucumber, jicama, Japanese peanuts, pork rinds, tamarind candy, lemon, chamoy (a tangy apricot sauce) and hot sauce. There is only way this gets better: it’s when you switch out Tostitos for Takis Fuego (spicy rolled chips) to get Takilocos.
